Toro (Japanese: Toro iseki) is a de facto archaeological site, located approximately 130 kilometers from Tokyo in Shizuoka Prefecture on the Japanese island of Honshu. The first major archaeological discovery at this site took place in 1943, but only after the end of World War II (exactly in the years 1947-1948) research works were continued there. In their course, traces of human settlement were discovered in the form of oval dugouts and farm buildings, as well as the remains of an efficient irrigation system and the remains of ceramics. The finds are dated on the so-called the Yayoi period (300 BC - AD 300), and a more precise date is given for the 1st-3rd century AD. Relating these dates to the history of Europe - these are the times of the Roman Empire. Based on the remains of the settlement and the obtained archaeological material, a fairly faithful reconstruction of the settlement was created, the total number of which is currently approx. 330 thousand. m2! In 1952, Toro iseki was listed as one of the most important historical sites in Japan by the government of that country.
