Avis 72034 Short S.4 Satellite "Parkers Tin Kettle"

The Short S.4 Satellite was a British prototype aircraft from the interwar period. The flight of the only prototype took place in 1924. The length of the machine was 7.24 meters with a wingspan of 10.3 meters. The drive was provided by a single Bristol Cherub engine with a maximum power of 33 HP. The maximum speed of the aircraft oscillated around 115 km / h. The machine did not have a permanent on-board armament. The aircraft was developed by the Short Brothers aviation company in connection with the competition announced by the British Air Ministry for a new, light two-seater aircraft - for training and communication purposes by default. The plane was developed at a rapid pace, and in its construction part of the surface was covered with duralumin, which was a solution not always used at that time. In the course of the tests, it turned out that the engine of the aircraft was too weak and therefore the Ministry of Aviation rejected the Short S.4 Satellite. However, the plant continued to work on the plane and made it a sports plane with a more powerful and reliable engine.
