Tadeusz Kosciuszko was born in February 1746 and died in October 1817 at the age of 71. He was a military engineer by education, an officer in the United States Army, a general in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Chief of the Kościuszko Uprising in 1794. In 1765 Tadeusz Kościuszko entered the not long ago established Knight's School, where he received careful education. In 1769 he began his further education in France as a royal scholarship holder. In 1776 he reaches the nascent United States, where he takes a very active part in the war for independence of this country, contributing, among other things, to the American victory in the Battle of Saratoga (1777). He was also responsible for the erection of the West Point Fortress, which now houses a military academy. In the USA, for his considerable merits, he enjoyed extraordinary respect and considerable favors - he received a patent for the Brigadier General and a large land grant, but also as one of three foreigners he was honored to join the Society of Cincinnates. After the end of the war, he returned to Poland, where he joined the army of the Republic of Poland. He made an outstanding contribution during the war in defense of the Constitution of May 3, fighting the battle of Dubienka in an excellent way with the overwhelming Russian forces, but also showed an outstanding attitude during the battle of Zieleniec. After the Polish defeat in 1792, he emigrated, but returned to the country very quickly. In 1794 he leads the Kościuszko Uprising, of which he becomes the Commander-in-Chief and the undeniable political and military leader. He won the Battle of Racławice, skillfully using the troops of kosynierzy, and shortly after he published the famous Połaniecki Universal. Shortly thereafter, he loses the Battle of Szczekociny, but in the summer of 1794 he led the defense of Warsaw against the Prussian and Russian armies in an outstanding manner. In the course of the Battle of Maciejowice, he was captured by the Russians, which in fact determined the fate of the insurrection. In November 1796 he was released from it, going to emigrate - to France, and finally to Switzerland. He died in exile on October 15, 1817.
