Aoshima 04710 USS Susquehanna

The USS Susquehanna was an American sail and steamer from the 19th century. The construction of the vessel began in 1847, and its launch took place in 1850. In the same year, she was accepted into service with the US Navy. The length of the ship was 78 meters and a width of 14 meters. However, the armament consisted of a total of 15 on-board guns. The maximum speed of the vessel did not exceed 10 knots. The USS Susquehanna was built at the New York Navy Yard as a mixed-steam engine. The ship, however, did not have a propeller, but a wheel drive or a paddle drive, in which the role of the propeller was played by paddle wheels on both sides (the so-called side wheel). USS Susquehanna in the years 1856-1861 served in the so-called Mediterranean Squadron, to later take an active part in the struggle during the Civil War (1861-1865) on the side of the Union. Among other things, he participated in the blockade of the ports of the South (eg Charleston). In 1868, the USS Susquehanna was decommissioned.
